Cooper Arms, Long Beach

    a Historical Landmark Property

Click on this link to see the latest units for sale at the COOPER ARMS.

Originally conceived in 1922 as the most luxurious co-operative apartment building in Long Beach, it was rival to the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles and the Huntington and Maryland Hotels in Pasadena. The construction of the Cooper Arms reflected the building boom after World War I and the discovery of oil in the region.

The Cooper Arms opened in March, 1924 as the city’s first residential high rise, catering to elegant resort living. The architects of the Cooper Arms were Alexander Curlett and Claude Beelman.

The Cooper Arms in located in the East Village Arts District, which is the name of the eastern half of downtown Long Beach, California. The borders are Ocean Blvd. to the south, Long Beach Blvd. to the west, 7th Street to the north, and Alamitos Avenue to the east. In 2007, the border of the East Village was expanded north to 10th Street.
